Our Fun Thai-Style Easter Party for Kids
š£ Our Fun Thai-Style Easter Party for Kids
Usually every Easter, I get excited and plan ahead to celebrate here in Long Island, New Yorkābecause Easter means spring is here! The weather is warm enough for the kids to play outside (if it doesnāt rain).
Our family isnāt really into going to public Easter events. Thereās usually a long line, tons of people, and not many eggs for each kid to hunt.
Thatās why I started creating a Thai-style Easter party at home. Our version usually brings together 3ā5 families who have little kids to enjoy the party together.
Each family brings their proud-to-present food, and I prepare games for the kidsāwhich of course include an egg hunt! The real goal is just to let them have fun and get tired... which means bedtime is easier. š
š„ The Food
The food my Thai friends always request is Som-Tum (Papaya Salad). I just prepare the ingredients, and whoever wants to eat it has to make it themselves! Itās the best way to give the guests something fun to doānot just sit around. Lol.
š What to Bring
Before the party, I usually send each parent the full info in an invitation so they can prep their kids. Hereās what each child needs: 30 stuffed plastic eggs (with anything their kid likes inside), 3 pieces of meaningful gifts (like craft sets, art setsānothing expensive),Ā
A bucket or basket
If they have 2 or 3 kids, just multiply everything for each one.
š§š³ Matthewās First Job: Party Staff!
This year, Matthew is already 11, and heās not really into egg hunts anymore. So⦠I hired him as one of the staff! š
I told him this is his first job. Heāll help run the games, explain them to the kids, help clean up after the party, and be a leader. The trick isāI want him to learn how to help, how to be responsible, and how to step up as a big kid.
I told him Iād pay him $10 after the job is done. So far, he takes it seriously! There are so many life lessons for him to learn at this party. š
š The Game Prizes
The gifts each family brings will be the prizes for the winners of the games. I usually calculate how many winners weāll have, then divide that number by how many families are joining.
If you end up with too many gifts, hereās a trick:
Put a number inside some of the eggs, and match that number to a gift (just stick the same number on the wrapped prize). That way, we make sure all the gifts are used, and itās super fun when the kids open the egg and realize they won something!
š° The GamesĀ
Once weāve eaten and settled in, itās time to play! You can pick and choose depending on your group size, but hereās what we usually do:
1. Easter Egg Hunt
Ā Hide the eggs around the backyard and let the kids go wild! I separate by age group so the little ones get a fair shot.
2. Egg Spoon Relay
Teams of two. Each kid walks carefully while balancing an egg on a spoon. If it drops, they start over! When time is up the team who gets more eggs wins.
3. Egg Tape Race
Ā Teams of 2ā4 kids grab an egg, run to a tape line (on the floor or table), stick it, and tag the next teammate. The team with the longest egg line wins.
4. Bunny Bingo Race (aka āPhysical Academic Gameā)
Two kids from each team run to a table and answer a simple question (math, science, or readingāgrade-appropriate). If they get it right, they earn a Bingo card. Then they hop like bunnies back to their team and mark it on the sheet. First to get BINGO wins!
Ā I made printable versions for grades Kā5, and if you want to check it out, itās in my digital shop!
5. Bunny Tag
One kid is the bunny and chases the others. Whoever gets tagged becomes the next bunny. When timeās up, the last bunny ālosesāābut in this game, the loser gets a prize! (Trust me, little kids cry if they lose. This fixes that.)
6. Balloon Pop
Ā Kids have balloons tied to both ankles. The goal is to pop othersā balloons while keeping yours safe. Last balloon standing wins! (Tony cried last year when his got popped⦠itās always one of the littles š
)
7. Easter Picture Scavenger Hunt
I made this printable scavenger hunt because Tony LOVES them. Weāve been doing them since he was 3!
Just print the Easter-themed sheet, place matching pictures around your house or yard, and let the kids search and cross them off. Give hints for tricky ones. The first three to find them all win prizes.
You can grab our printable version for free right here and use it at your own party!
š§ø After the Games
After around 6 or 7 games, people are already tired enoughā¦
Not the kids thoughājust us! š
So I usually set up some bean bag activities or outdoor toys where they can safely play together on their own.
We (the grown-ups) will finally get to sit down, eat, drink, chat⦠maybe drink a little moreājust kidding! Iām not really into alcohol. If Iām gonna drink something high-calorie, itās going to be bubble tea. š
š Wrapping Up
So thatās our Easter party, Thai-style!
Lots of kids, lots of noise, lots of laughterāand a whole bunch of fun memories. If youāre like me and prefer a more relaxed, family-style celebration without the chaos of big public events, maybe give this a try!
Hope you and your loved ones have the best time this Easter 2025āand if you try any of these games, let me know how it goes. š
